September seems to be the month of birthdays for people I know -- including myself, my wife, at least 2 coworkers and a couple friends. What's up with that? Something about new year's eve perhaps? Anyway, Happy Birthday all you wonderful people!

What can I say? Sometimes there are pieces of music it helps to have a Penfield Mood Organ to really get into...and tonight's 20 minute excursion into german avante garde rock might be one of them. Still awesome, though. Give it a try.

Quite a range I've got for you tonight. Beside the aforementioned epic Krautrock odyssey by Can, there's Shatner's "Tambourine Man", instrumental Beastie Boys, some Violent Femmes, oh, and the only song with performances of all five members of Pink Floyd -- and a whole lot more as well. Don't let the Can scare you off...set those Penfields and turn it up!

Radio Fragments - Cool Night Air

We got a really slow start to the summer here in Seattle, so it seems a little silly to say "Thank goodness that sun and heat has gone", but sheesh, it was record-setting-hot here and I'm glad for a nice cool evening to drive to the studio and back in.

Lots of great mini-themes this week... three examples of "hey, they recorded _this_ as well" that might have you scratching your head and tapping your feet, klezmer from 2010 & 1950, a french rap cover of "Oh What a Night", and let's not forget Nina Simone and Abbey Lincoln...oh, and some Neon Indian and brand new Chemical Brothers. Mmmm...chunky electronics. The coolest music of all time, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Interestingly, I ended up with a lot of music from the 50s tonight, not sure how that happened, but sometimes it just turns out that way. Sinatra, Fitzgerald, Sun Ra, and more. Plus music from every decade since. That's Radio Fragments for you...except where I play the wrong song and it's a lullaby at 2:30 am. Awesome...

Radio Fragments - Comedy of Errors

So, first I didn't pack all the CDs I needed, and then the show got a late start and threw my timing off, then one of the CD players decided not to work, then one of the CDs wouldn't read properly anyway, then my initial draft of this blog post mysteriously disappeared. Sheesh, pretty much the only thing that went well was... 2 hours of awesome music! It's all about the music.

Record setting temps here in Seattle during the day, but at night...ahhh...much nicer. One of the things I really like about a late show like this one is being able to drive home in the middle of the night, windows & sun roof open, just enjoying the cool air after a hot day. It's been a weird cold spring here in the Seattle area...but today breaks that trend, and about time. For the first time in 273 (!) days, the temperature broke 75F.
