Radio Fragments - 1982
by Jeff on Dec.08, 2010,under Weekly Show
It's my 52 weekaversary! And to celebrate a year back on the radio, I'm dedicating the show to a year. A specific year: 1982.
Why 1982? Well, it sort of fits right in there at the cusp between punk & post-punk; disco was fading, new wave was being driven by MTV which was blowing up; it was the year of the second English invasion, but also the year some great british bands offered up their swan songs (Led Zeppelin's "Coda", Roxy Music's "Avalon); and the first CDs went on sale in Japan. Also, I was 14 and starting to develop my own tastes in music. All around, an important year for music, and an important one for me.
So that's what I'll be looking at for a couple hours. It's not all new wave, there's some great Iron Maiden, Who & Pink Floyd tossed in, my favorite song by Bruce Springsteen, and some great first-wave American punk. Let's not forget Jarre & Tangerine Dream. It's a great year, it'll be a great couple of hours.
